Biomedical Equipment Technician II
LOCATION Covering Lincoln, Nebraska City, Beatrice NE and surrounding areas.

JOB SUMMARY
Under moderate supervision, repair, calibrate, and maintain medical equipment, instrumentation,
and support systems of moderate complexity used in healthcare delivery. Inspect, install, and perform
inventory assessments and preventive maintenance of medical equipment. Assist medical and nursing
staff in the use of equipment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties Include:
Repair, install, maintain, calibrate, and inspect medical equipment and instrumentation, including
life support equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices, and
systems.
Diagnose and collect system and equipment malfunctions.
Maintain documentation on new equipment, inspections, and equipment repairs and failures. Assist with and evaluate third-party repairs.
Provide technical assistance and instruction to personnel regarding equipment operation and
maintenance.
Review outcome of preventive maintenance actions and make recommendations to department staff
concerning improvements.
Provide mentoring to other biomedical equipment technicians.
May assist senior biomedical engineering technicians or supervisors with in-service educational programs on use of equipment.

3-7 years
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Individuals will work under supervision of Clinical Engineer and Clinical Engineering Supervisor.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Individuals will maintain good personal relationships with fellow workers, nursing and medical staff, vendors, manufacturers, and the general public. Will be expected to participate in meetings, seminars,
training, workshops, and conferences as required. Will maintain a clean and safe workplace.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training, and/or work experience required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree in electronic or biomedical equipment technology is desirable, as well as a minimum
of two years' experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment. An equivalent combination
of education and experience may be substituted.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of technical aspects of electronic equipment and its operation, repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of the application and repair of computers and servers and how they interface with medical equipment.
Knowledge of current regulatory requirements.
Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology as applied to use of biomedical equipment.
Knowledge of color code conventions used in component and wiring marking.
Ability to analyze, repair, and test electronic and electromechanical equipment.
Ability to perform preventive maintenance inspections.
Ability to run diagnostic programs.
Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical
instrumentation.
Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs, calibration, and tests.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment; to push/pull equipment carts; and to kneel, stand, bend, and reach during equipment repair.
Skill in testing electronic equipment.
Skill in manual dexterity, hand-to-eye coordination, and color vision.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Generally good working conditions. Possible hazards include exposure to electrical shock, ionizing
radiation, chemicals and chemical fumes, high-pressure air, infectious disease, and various other hazards
associated with biomedical engineering work. Protective clothing and safe work practices are required.
